Bali Rugby Club

Rugby & Bali are two words that you would not usually find in the same sentence, but little do people know, Rugby has been played here on the Island of the Gods since 1995. It was then that a group of rag tag surfers joined a group of expatriates and formed a Bali Team to represent the island in an upcoming tournament. Due to the lack of funds, boxer shorts (with little chickens stamped all over them) were donated by Mambo as part of the Uniform. It was here that an idea arose and the Bali Chooks were born!

The Bali 10?s Rugby Tournament, inviting teams from all over Asia, became a yearly event and the Chooks continued to strengthen ? winning the tournament in 1997, 2001, 2003, and in 2005 becoming the Plate winners. Although the tournament has grown to a size in which over 20 teams compete, it has not been without its challenges. The tournament was directly affected by the 2002 Bali Bombing in which 27 coaches, players and spectators lost their lives. Even last year?s tournament was on the same weekend as Bali Bomb 2, but all participants were determined to ensure that terrorists did not dictate our lives and it was a huge success.

This year, due to many Bali Chook players aging and unavailable to participate, we were at risk of losing Rugby to Bali forever. Therefore a group of Rugby enthusiasts have got together to form the Stiff Chilli Bali Rugby Club. The purpose of the new club is to promote rugby throughout the Island by participation in friendly competition.
